Katherine developed the technique used in her signature "ghost mosaics" through years of studio experimentation with classical mosaic, mixed media and negative space. In addition to the traditional stone and glass, she uses metal and paint for a more contemporary effect. While the mosaic tesserae in each work are monotone, shading is created through the varying proximity of the tesserae, as well as the underlying layer of paint when used.
