I am an artist and master mosaic craftsperson, one of the very few to have trained in the Italian mosaic tradition based on Byzantine mosaic of the 5th and 6th century. I received a Bachelor of Arts from Smith College in Art History.

A DECADE IN ITALY

After graduation, I promptly moved to Italy, where I lived for 10 years, absorbing the Italian Renaissance and ancient Roman aesthetic. I studied mosaic at the Centro per la Formazione Professionale and Accademia delle Belle Arti in Ravenna, Italy, and apprenticed with the premier mosaic studio in Ravenna, before starting Katherine Forst Mosaics in 2008.

I combine my passion for ancient mosaics and the Italian Renaissance with an eye to contemporary design. In addition to high-end residences and businesses all over the United States and in France, I’ve collaborated on public art projects in the US and Italy, including the LaGuardia airport. I’m influenced by global pattern design, botanical illustration, and the world around me—from cityscapes to untamed natural beauty.
